The Perfect Scoop is not a new cookbook, but I think it’s one that every dessert-lover should own, especially if you love ice cream. David Lebovitz has been a pastry chef and cookbookwriter for
years, and has numerous delicious dessert cookbooks, but this one’s by far my favorite. The recipes run the gamut from ice creams, frozen yogurts, granitas and sorbets to toppings, “mix-ins” and vessels. David has a knack for combining fresh, seasonal ingredients and making the recipes simple and easy-to-follow. Even candy-making seems less frightening!
Some of my favorite frozen recipes out of this cookbook include Strawberry Frozen Yogurt, Basil Ice Cream, Milk Chocolate Ice Cream, and the Philadelphia-style Vanilla Ice Cream. I’ve also made the Espresso Granita and the Mojito Granita – both perfect for hot summer days. And the toppings… mmmm… I love the Classic Hot Fudge, The Creamy Caramel Sauce, the Dulce de Leche, the Cajeta, and the Salted Butter Caramel Sauce. And then there’s the Chewy-dense brownies from the “Vessels” Section.
See what I mean? How can you pass this one up? I have a simple Braun ice cream maker and I can whip up delicious desserts with the flip of a switch. It’s that easy!
